About Him
Mr. Frederick Ken. Appiah is a Mechanical Engineer who has been working with the Energy Commission since 2006, and currently the Deputy Director in charge of renewable energy at the Commission. He holds BSc. and MSc. Mechanical Engineering degrees and several certificates in clean and renewable energy technologies, public policy analysis and project planning, development and management from Germany, Singapore, USA, UK and China.
He is in charge of licensing of renewable energy service providers, development of renewable energy policies and policy instruments, regulations and technical standards, and promotion of renewable energy technologies at the Commission. He coordinated the implementation of the National Rooftop Solar Programme initiated by the Energy Commission in 2016, and currently managing the Net-Metered Solar PV (NMPV) component under the Scaling up Renewable Energy Program (SREP).
Mr. Appiah also lectures Renewable Energy Law, Policy and Practice (LLM & MA) at the University of Ghana’s School of Law, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Climate Change and Sustainable Development at the Center for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies (C3SS), University of Ghana.

In 2017, the second phase of the National Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Programme initiated by the Energy Commission was piloted, where 200 solar PV systems of 500Wp capacity each were installed in 200 homes in sixteen (16) off-grid communities in the Abetifi and Mpraeso constituencies of the Eastern Region.
